In honor of black history month and Norwest Gallery of Art’s 5 year anniversary, we will look at the various expressions of Black Love with an interactive exhibition. There are many kinds of expressions of love. Romance novels often speak to many types of affections but as scholars of the enslaved we are reminded, being able to love in the midst of history’s atrocities is a form of resistance. As black people we are called to love in the mist of our struggles to uplift and move forward the diaspora. The romantic love that Black people express for one another helps define and direct Black life and culture. Be it from the love of family, the love of a man and woman, or the love of community ,any expression of black love encourages our people. We need to love each other more and this exhibition is an example of how it’s done.
